LOOK after Your Child’s Eyesight

With school back in session it’s time for well-checks and first-time vision screenings for young children. Your child’s vision will go through many changes and it is important to be proactive. That means more than just routine eye exams! Some other helpful tips include:

  • Having a balanced diet: Eating a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, which contain necessary vitamins and minerals, can help protect your child’s vision.
  • Limiting their screen time: Have your child take frequent breaks to protect their vision. Increased screen time can make uncorrected vision problems worse.
  • Use protective eyewear and sunglasses: If your child is involved in sports or other activities, make sure they wear protective eyewear to avoid injuries. You can also protect your child’s eyes from the sun with sunglasses that have 100% ultraviolet (UV) protection.
  • Get enough sleep: Without enough sleep, it could be harder for your child’s eyes to recover from everyday use or irritants in the environment.

Vision is an important part of childhood development. Let’s keep our children’s eyes healthy. Schedule that eye exam!
