Native Youth Art Camp

Friday, August 11 2023

Last week, our Behavioral Health Services collaborated with Granger High School’s Native Nations Club and the Turtle Island Art Collective (TIAC) for our second, Native Youth Art Camp. TIAC’s Native artists taught Native American drumming, singing, dancing, visual art and beadwork for Native youth to tell their own stories and strengthen connections to their culture and indigenous values. These art forms increase protective factors supporting mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention.

This year’s camp concluded by inviting families to share a meal. The youth also displayed their beadwork and visual art while performing the songs and dances they learned during the week.

UICSL is grateful for our partnerships with @Turtleislandartcollective and @Grangerhighschool. We look forward to future collaborations to “Serve The People.”
